Dyeing acrylic

Morning all. A friend gave me a beat up old acrylic sweater that I'm going to rip apart for the yarn.

I figure I could dye the yarn and make something nice out of it.

Any advice on what types of dyes to use, and tips on doing the dyeing?

Thanks in advance, Danny

Sadly, acrylic doesn't hold dyes well at all. You're kinda stuck with the color you have :/

I could be wrong, but I don't think acrylic takes dye. At all.

Thanks!

Dang - that is NASTY! I think I'll stick with what I have then, which is a dirty white. I think I see more slippers in my future!

If it's really beat up and old, the yarn won't be very good when you rip it out. It will likely be uneven, matted, frayed, etc.

Also, acrylic is not necessarily easy to rip out.

Old acrylic stuff is usually best recycled as a pet-bed nesting material.
