yarn substitution

Has anyone used Laines Du Nord Giunco? Is it pretty soft?  I'm thinking of substituting it for Filatura di Crosa Zarina in Lace Style's Leg Cozies.  I always get really nervous when substituting yarn - I understand I need to make sure the gauge is the same so I may need to change needle size but other than that what do you think?  Thanks.

It's a nice yarn, but it's not particularly soft. It's just a tad on the scratchy side, so I'm not sure it would be best for anything next to the skin.

I made a sort of frilly girlie scarf with the Giunco and a co-ordinating Laines Du Nord mohair in the same colourway, and it doesn't really itch my neck terribly, but personally, I wouldn't use it for legwarmers.

Good to know - I definitely don't want anything scratchy. Thanks.

not related to the yarn issue, those leg cozies are so rad! Is Lace Style a book? Who is it by? I would love to knit some of those too :-)
Thanks!

Ya, Lace Style is a book by Pam Allen and Ann Budd. You can see all the projects in the book at the Knitalong (you have to scroll down a bit).

I am using it right now to knit a cardigan. I like the way it's knitting up, but I'll have to agree with [info]st_raoul that it's not soft right out of the ball. Although it is superwash, so perhaps it will soften up some after washing. I admit that I didn't wash my swatch for the cardigan so I can't tell you for certain whether or not it will indeed soften up after washing.

It's fine next to the skin for me, but if you've got sensitive skin on your legs, I wouldn't use it.
