FO and felting question!!

Hello fellow knitters!

First of all I have a felting question... A while back I posted pictures of a felted bag I made (my first attempt at felting) and I've since realized that I don't really like the amount of stitch definition I have. I'd like to felt it down more. Is that possible? It's made out of Lambs Pride Bulky yarns if that helps any?

And finally... pictures of my latest FO Collapse )

FO's galore! (picture-heavy, but they're all pretty small)

Hey everybody!

I posted a little while ago about my friend's HP scarf I was working on.. now its done, in plenty of time before her birthday (though I'll give it to her early so she can get as much use of it as possible).

Now that I have a digital camera (!!!) I can finally take pictures of all of my first FO's (I learned to knit it August). Unfortunately, I've given alot of them away, or else they're all over my house. I could only get a hold of three. :/

Next hurdle: SOCKS! :)I've decided to go ahead and try them. I have plenty of supplies to choose from, considering my ever-growing Collapse )

Thanks everyone! Byee.

hey guys, I'm kind of new to knitting, so I was wondering if you could help me!

I want to make a gryffindor scarf with a "G" knitted into the first stripe.. But I also want it to look semi decent on the flip side. Is there a way to easily do this? I heard something about 'mosaic knitting' but is that reversable/nice looking on the flip side? I couldn't find much about it on the web, either.. how do you do it?

Ahh crap. Crumpets sizing?

I am working on the pattern Crumpets at chiagu.com, a baby girl's dress. Now, it has elastic in the top part of it, and I am making the size for a 1-year-old, which means that it is 18 inches around the chest. Only problem is, I had the mom measure the baby (they live far away) and her chest measured 21.5 inches. I don't have enough yarn to make the bigger size... Has anyone made this pattern? Or can a mom tell me if the dress will stretch and I should keep going? Or should I give up?

Thanks!

I'm very excited. Today I went to my LYS (for the very first time, I didn't even know we had one until recently!), and I found out that I get a discount because I'm a student at the nearby University! 20%!
Also, I scored, because they were having a 50% off sale. I got four skeins of Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Super Wash Bulky in Plum Crazy (a nice lavender) and Mysterious Fuschia (a rich purpely-red) for $15! I'm very excited, but now I don't know what to do with it. I was going to make one of those cute little cabled bags that everyone is making, but I'm not coordinated enough to do cables, I swear, plus, I think that this whole "twisting stitches" problem I have might interfere with the nice look of the cables. I'm working out the twisting stitch problem, but I want to start something now!
Here is my question: What is your favorite purse/handbag pattern? I dont' want to make a scarf, because I lose scarves and I won't wear it and blah blah blah. I don't know, I like making purses!
Let me know what you guys think. Remember, it can't be felted!

Confessions (and questions) of a convert

I posted a tiny sock here a few days ago. Since then, I've been doing socks non-stop! I've been knitting for a while now, but this was my first sock. They're stinkin' addictive.

Anyway, I bought a sock book today (1/2 off at Hobby Lobby, yay!) and I wanted to ask about it. Has anybody used Simple Socks: Plain and Fancy? What did you think of it? Any suggestions for a newbie sock knitter?

I need some commiseration...

So, I knit Saranac (from Knitty) for my boy for Valentine's day and I just washed it, and it grew in length 2 inches! It's huuuuuuge! My boyfriend's pretty small to begin with and he lost weight over break because he was sick...I'm so sad that my first boyfriend sweater might not fit. I know, I know, it'll probably not be so bad when it's dry but still, I'm kind of sad. I hate how no matter how much you swatch, things change WAY more than you expect them to. I'm clinging to the hope it'll shrink up when dry but I'm still nervous. Damn you Cascade 220! You're awesome and affordable but you grew! A lot! Argh!

Ok, I'm done ranting, thanks for listening. If anyone wants to give suggestions for possibly shrinking 100% wool without destroying it or want to offer any other advice, feel free :-)

question of abbreviations

So I am following the cigar pattern from knitty and I have come to a group of appreviations that I am a little confused about. When you get to the middle fingear it says "pick up and k2 sts in CO sts from Index fingear"... I know what picking up is, and I know what casting on is, but I have no clue what they mean when they say pu and k2 in co sts
help ?

FO: Rosedale United

I started Rosedale United back in December after my secret pal gave me 2 balls of noro kureyon in color #164. I used 11 balls total, with just a few yards to spare in the last ball. The sweater was fun and pretty quick I thought, and one of the only sweaters I've made that I can see myself regularly wearing.
