Question from a novice

Hello, all.  Please forgive my newbie-ness, but I have a question.  I'm using size 9" needles and I want to make a blanket for my son's twin sized bed.  Can you tell me how many stitches I should use?

Thanks in advance!

first post-gauge question

hi all, i hope someone can answer my question. i searched the site, but didn't come across this exact problem. i've always been pretty loose about starting out getting my gauge and consequently have had the odd project just not workout. i am starting a project now that i a) really love and B) spent a little more for yarn then i usually do, so i want it to come out correctly. the directions say..."19 sts and 26 rows=4" in St st" so i measured out my swatch and i'm at 4" up and down but not side to side. i'm at3" and an 8th there. is this ok, or do i need to switch up to a larger size needle, but then will i get more inches up and down? i'm confused. any thoughts? thanks in advance....

I know, I know...I've been posting too much. But that's what happens when you work on 10 projects at once -- there comes a time when they all get done, and all at around the same time.

So here is my fifth FO in a week:
