what am i doing wrong?

http://straw.com/cpy/patterns/baby_pixiehat-layout.html

Okay, pixie hat again.

So I am knitting along and then I notice, wait aren't there supposed to be garter st borders on the left?

I have followed the pattern to the T and I am getting Stockinette st borders on the edge. What am I doing wrong.

Am I readin this right?

Row5: k6, (p2,k2) to within 6 sts of end, k6.

Row6: p6, (k2,p2) to within 6 sts of end, p6.

Row7: same as row 5.

So those 6 purl sts on top of the 6 knit sts make stockinette?!?!

I am like half way through this and figured this out. You think stockinette would be alright?

Looking for hat suggestions

My dad got me some yarn to make a hat for my mom. It's kid mohair boucle, absolutely gorgeous stuff, and hand painted. There's 250 yards of it, and it's sports weight. All of my knitting books are 12 hours away...
Any thoughts? I have a 12 hour car ride, and would love to get it finished on the trip!

TIA, and happy holidays!

feedback on Brown Sheep Wildfoote sock yarn?

Has anyone used wildfoote sock yarn? If so, what did you think of it? How was it to knit with? Was it "splitty"? How durable is it?

I've used Opal, Lion Brand Magic Stripes, Socks that Rock, Lorna's Laces, and Savvyminx sock yarns, so any comparisons to these yarns are all right.

I've become totally addicted to knitting socks, and I have an two hour train ride each work day, which is just perfect knitting time. What I like best about my own socks is that they are just the length that I like, and the cuffs aren't tight at all. Now I don't have indentations on my legs from sock cuffs anymore. :-)

Thanks all!

Dilemma: Pattern Adjustment in Cigar Gloves

Hi, I'm making a pair of knitty's Cigar Gloves for myself. Because it's the first time I made them, I followed the pattern exactly on the first glove. After completing it, I found that it didn't fit quite perfectly -- I should have added an extra round or two to the palm section. It seems I have long palms; who knew? LOL!

I am now working on the second glove. My dilemma: should I follow the pattern exactly and make a pair of matching but not-quite-fitting gloves? Should I make the adjustment on the second glove and have one glove that fits perfectly and one that is not-so-perfect? Or should I make the adjustment on the second glove, and then go back and (*sigh*) frog out the first glove to the point where I could make the adjustment and refinish that first glove?

I'd be interested in hearing opinions and suggestions. Thanks.
