I mentioned in the "favorite books" post that I love Kath Dalmeny's World of Knitted Toys. So last Christmas I came up with what I thought was a pretty cool idea. I picked a few animals from the book, knitted them up, then found a corresponding DVD. For example, for my niece, I knitted the emperor penguin, and gave her the DVD "March of the Penguins." I wasn't able to be there when she got the gift, but it went over like gang-busters--she screamed "I got the "penguin movie" and a baby penguin, too!" For my baby brother (and I mean "baby"-my dad and his wife adopted from Guatemala), I made the clown fish, and, of course, gave him "Finding Nemo." That went over well, too. This year, I plan to make above-mentioned niece a pig, and give her "Babe."
I'm sorry I don't have any photos of my finished objects--I'm still figuring out how to use LJ.
P.S. If you like this idea, don't forget to make everything "baby proof", like safety eyes or yarn eyes, tight seaming, etc. And be prepared to see your "work of art" drooled on, tossed around, and otherwise "violently loved." :-)
