Looking for a scarf idea

I have some DK weight alpaca and I'm looking for a good scarf idea to use it up. I've considered Knitty's "Branching Out" but I'm not entirely sold on it. I'm looking for something a little less lacy, but not so dull I want to stab myself in the eyeball with the dull end of my needles, y'know?

Any suggestions? I mean, I could always go back and get worsted weight like I intended to in the first place, but I get freakishly attached to yarn if it's around me for very long -- and I've had this about a week. So we're friends now and it'd just be sad to take it back.

There's always the option of looking for another yarn entirely and turning the alpaca into a stash puppy (read: yarn you don't knit; just pet), but that's not economically brilliant. Though I do look for any excuse to add to the stash. But this is ideally for Christmas knitting. If it were destined to be a stash puppy, I'd have snagged it in a color other than black.
