Messy KFB?

I'm making the Carie Cropped Cardigan from Fitted Knits (also at Knitty Gritty as the "Better Sweater" - sorry no link, I'm having issues with the code). It's a simple, top-down cardigan with KFB raglan increases. All my increases make a nice, smooth line, with the exception of the first group of increases - the bump created by the kfb is really obvious, and is interrupting the the increase line. I have:

v
v
v
v on one side and v
-v
--
v- (or something like that) on the other.

The offending side (sorry it's a little blurry)

Correct and incorrect side.

I think the increases are in the right spot and everything, and I'm pretty damn sure I've worked them correctly, but there's something wrong with them. I've frogged it, but I don't understand how this happened, why it only happened on the first group of increases,or how to correct it/prevent it for my next go at the sweater. It's probably worth noting that this is my first raglan, but not my first time using kfb.
